My old credit union started hiding pending charges (you sometimes could actually see them and then they would disappear) when you were low on cash and then you would make a bigger purchase thinking you still had enough to cover it and they would crash all those little pending charges down on you at once causing you to have 7 or more overdraft fee's of 30 bucks each (I shit you not.) but I switched when I moved and so far I love my current bank but that might be because it's local and well... honest.

I know looks aren't important and women shouldn't hold each other to ridiculous social standards when it comes to weight and appearance and all that crap... but your legs look ridiculously hot in that photo. I'm sure that the universe depends, in some way, on the hotness of your legs.

Also, I just wanted to add that if I had an overdraft problem (something that I felt was their fault, not mine) they were excellent about working with me and dropped the overdraft fees. This has happened more than once and I think I'd be hard pressed to go back to a bank after using a credit union.

I definitely agree. I went from a bank to the Duke Credit Union and I could not be happier. Although, the overdraft fee is $28, they have a program you can sign up for that allows you to have a $1000 overdraft protection, which you pay back like credit. I've never had a problem with my credit union, and they also don't push you to start extra accounts or apply for loans.

I highly recommend a credit union.

I'm also totally for CU's like a lot of the comments so far. If you have to/want to stay with a bank for whatever reason, I would suggest Wells Fargo. They've been pretty good with me so far, will reimburse fees if you call and explain, don't hold a lot of checks except for the usual circumstances and they don't charge me ridiculous fees for using other ATM's. BofA has been nothing but problems for everyone I know that uses them. WaMu was another good one until they merged with Chase.

Oh, and Credit unions usually give you immediate credit on the checks you deposit inside of the branch during business hours. ;)

I've worked at both a credit union and a bank.

Credit unions are usually the way to go if you just need a simple personal or small business account. Most credit unions are a little behind in technology, but that shouldn’t matter if you just need a simple checking/shares account. CU’s are not-for-profit, so they really don’t aim to charge you an arm and a leg for everything. One of the biggest (HUGEST) disadvantages is not having branches everywhere. I travel from California to Phoenix a lot, and it always sucks searching for an ATM. Most CU’s (at least here in California) will let you use other credit unions’ ATM’s with no fee (and sometimes reimburse you)…but that means you have actually find a credit union in that city.

If you are looking for an actual bank, I’d go with Chase, if any. I haven’t had any problems with them (yet!). Seattle Bank has an awesome free checking account plan too if you want to go that route.. Good luck!
