I have a real problem with gambling. There is a story.. a close friend of my father was a massive gambler and they had all kinds of financial hardship. Growing up I knew they were hard up, but it was only when I was an adult that my pa told me about the real reasons. This man, this person I thought of as an uncle, is one of the kindest and sweetest people I know. Not the brightest, but a really good man. It kills me that he has lived with this addiction and the problems that it has caused for his family. I don't gamble - because whenever I do, I just think of him and something inside me... twinges.

Seriously though, I don't judge other people if they choose to gamble. It's just when I see others gambling I keep asking myself if they can afford it, if they're in control. But that's my problem, I suppose.

I go to the races with my friends quite frequently here in Australia. I dont bet, so i just go to sit in the sun and start drinking at 11am :) Anyway... My boyfriend, who bets quite frequently, convinced me that i HAD to bet on this horse Lightening because he always seems to do well. Even though I wasnt too impressed about parting with my money I gave in and bet on it cos i had been guaranteed a return. Everything was going well, my horse was winning, I was thinking like you were; "oh this makes it more fun"...until the horse came round to the final straight, broke his pelvis, fell over and died..on the track. They came and put a black tent around him, and then he got taken away. I will never bet again.
