Leo and I would like you all to know that we’re both safely in Yreka, California for the night. We made it into California by a sliver. I’d wanted to push for Redding for tonight, but it was still two hours away and I was fading fast. The drive’s been easy so far, just a little strange because so much of it is at night. I’m glad I stopped in Yreka and not Redding, because this way I’ll get to drive through Mt. Shasta in the light, and Mt. Shasta is mind-blowingly beautiful.
The cats are staying at home and being kitty-sat by my amazing neighbor Kate, who volunteered to help almost as soon as I put a request out on my Twitter. She is the perfect person to do it because she lives in the building so it’s super convenient for her. But then I had a flood of people email me like, “Hey, my roommate has her entire family here for the holidays and it’s making me crazy. CAN I PLEASE CATSIT FOR YOU IMMEDIATELY?” Heh. And here I thought I absolutely HAD to take the cats because no one would be able to watch them in Seattle. Ask and ye shall receive.
Oh, speaking of which, if you exclude periods in which we’ve run high-profile advertisements, Zelda Lily had its highest traffic day ever today, thanks to our KY lube promotion. Sex sells, people. Seriously, though, I have been BOMBARDED with entries for that contest, and the stories people tell in their submissions are just phenomenal. Hilarious and touching and a delight to read. I’ve just stumbled upon the most articulate and funny and open group of commenters with these sites. Sure, there are haters in the comments section, but whenever I run a contest like this and I read the responses, I remember that those hater commenters aren’t representative of our audience.
Anyway. Ideally, I’d like to get up early and somehow drive all the way to Phoenix tomorrow, but I doubt that’s gonna happen. Le sigh. It will be as it will be.
