If you like having only 4 periods a year, but aren't comfortable with NuvaRing, I suggest Seasonale (generic Jolessa) birth control pills. You take them in the same manner that you take regular, monthly BC, but you only have a period 4 times a year. 1 pack of Seasonale or Jolessa is 3 mos. of BC pills.

Also, I have noticed (after cycling through a LOT of BC pills) that my periods are lighter and shorter on Seasonale than they were when I was on Ortho TriCyclen or any of the others. A word of caution though, it will take your body a while to get used to three-month cycles, so there will be spotting/bleeding at times until your body adjusts. But, I started on Seasonale about 4-5 years ago, and haven't looked back. IMO, it's the best!

i'm on the nuva ring too and only get my period 3 times a year. And although I agree, when it does come, it comes for 1-3 weeks, but with only 3-4 terrible crippling days. I highly recommend it.

I am on the Nuva-ring, and I am only supposed to have my period four times a year. I tried to plan ahead, as to not have it during my wedding festivities and honeymoon. I started my period the night of the rehearsal dinner and it DIDN"T STOP until after our honeymoon. It was horribly unfortunate and we worked around it, somewhat... We were in Hawaii for ten days. I was concerned about attracting sharks while snorkling, but I got through it. After Hawaii, we went to Festival 8, in Palm Springs for four days. I can not say enough about how awful dealing with "the situation" was only in port-a-potties. This happened when I first got on the ring, but I had not had such a body rebellion in the past two years. A frighteningly accurate graph.
