First off: Thank you all for the diet site suggestions in the comments on my last post. Very helpful. I’ll poke around them in more detail this weekend, but I appreciate you guys taking the time to weigh in with your knowledge.
Took my dad to the airport at around noon today. I was so sorry to see him leave, it feels lonely again in the house, and he’s been so diligent about doing the dishes and washing my laundry and generally being the parent in my life I so desperately need, but it’s nice to be back to my routine.
I went to the dentist — a new one, since I finally got dental insurance — and his office was AMAZING. I felt like I’d walked into a fancy salon. The dental tech was super-friendly, and I even signed my HIPA consent right on the screen! They have a pen for that now! The dentist himself was an uber-cheerful (probably gay) young-ish looking guy, and he was just so friendly and not at all snotty and acting superior like most dentists do. (Really, dude? You’re superior to my teeth? I think no.) Despite all the X-rays and poking and prodding, I rate it as a positive dental experience. I’ll go back. On March 3. Since they’ve already scheduled me.
Then I headed into the office. I got in at 3:30 and I didn’t even make it to my desk until 6. Meetings, meetings. It’s all good, though — we’re looking at a lot of cool opportunities with Evil Beet and Zelda Lily. I don’t want to talk about details yet because I’m not sure how much of it is actually going to happen, but I’m hopeful. I think it would be a fun project, something to sink my teeth into.
After that, I rushed to my friend Grace’s house so that we could go see Wicked, which is playing at the Paramount. Our friend Andrew met us there. We had total nosebleed seats, but it didn’t prevent us from thoroughly enjoying the show, which is brilliant. I was a big fan of the book even before the musical existed, and I found myself once again enthralled by these characters and their choices. (The book goes much deeper into it — definitely a must-read!) The performers were phenomenal. I saw a lot of musicals as a kid, and I pretty much just assumed that adults just sang that way. As an adult, I can appreciate the rareness of that kind of talent, and the work that goes into training it. It’s really damn near an athletic feat what those actors do — dancing around while singing so phenomenally well. I could go on for hours about every aspect of the show that was brilliant — everything, really — but I need to get to bed soon. Leave it at this: I was impressed.
Anyway. It’s 2:30am and I’m awake. That should give you a clue as to how far off my schedule I’ve fallen — I’m normally in bed NO LATER than 2am AS A RULE. I really need to get on a normal person’s schedule. I’m getting up early, starting tomorrow. Maybe.
