Wow, I didn’t realize how long it had been since I’d posted on here. I guess I really, really, really needed some time away from the Internet. I’ve actually had a pretty awesome few days. You can always get the Cliffs Notes version of my life by following my Twitter, but I’ll put the highlights here.
There is a boy. He is not a boyfriend, and new policy is to keep my romantic life, as much as possible, off my blog. But he’s in the Navy (sexy!) and he’s really fun to be around, and he’s been giving me better things to do at night than blog. (Although he is being forced to watch West Wing with me at night. Priorities, people.)
Yesterday I spent the day helping a friend celebrate her “un-wedding day.” Yesterday was supposed to be her wedding, but it didn’t actually end up happening, because obviously God has way better plans for her. But it’s not exactly fun to sit around the house thinking about your wedding that’s not happening, so we did a girls’ day and a yummy potluck dinner, and then hit up a club downtown for dancing that night. I’d never been to this club before — I don’t go out that much these days — but what I remember from my clubbing days in LA is that you bought drugs in the bathroom or under the table or behind the bar or really anywhere but totally out in the middle of the room where everyone can see. Apparently those rules have changed. We were like the only people who weren’t snow-boarding out of our minds, which actually made it a lot more fun from a people-watching perspective.
I fell in love with this one guy, who was wearing some amazing and ridiculous jacket. “That’s what everyone wore in the clubs in the 1980s,” my girlfriend said. I was like, “Really? Because I was thinking that’s what everyone wore in the clubs in the 1880s.” Anyway. I made him pose for a picture and then we were buddies and we danced the night away.
Today I actually met up with a reader of my blog, Cindy, and her son. She was in town visiting her son and wanted to know if I had any time free to meet. They were kind enough to drive into my neck of the woods, and I just had the most wonderful time chatting with them. We had some interesting conversations about the world of blogging and the pros and cons of becoming something of an internet celebrity, or at least having your life broadcast and put on the internet for dissection and discussion. As we were saying goodbye, Cindy was like, “You know, you’re just a nice, normal person.” I was like “I KNOW!! Would you please make some manner of formal announcement to that regard?” I think sometimes my life comes off as larger-than-life, or as a personality I come off as larger-than-life, but, when you meet me, I’m really pretty normal. It throws people off a bit, I think. I don’t know what they’re expecting, but I’m pretty sure I never deliver. Oh, and Cindy’s friend Dale wanted to know I said hello, too. We took these pics:
Then Leo and I went to pick up my friend Kara, and we jog/walked Green Lake with Leo. I haven’t done that since I was training for my half-marathon, and it felt really really good. I need to pick another race to train for so that I force myself to get out and run more regularly, now that it’s cooling down. I realized today how much I miss it.
Oh and as part of my home-improvement efforts I hung this mirror (poorly) today. It’s seriously a laughably bad job. The photo doesn’t do it justice. When my dad comes to visit in a couple weeks he’s going to have to patch up all the holes I made and re-mount it.
And, with that, I’m signing off. I have a Naval vessel to board.
