When I was pregnate(I have three kids ) I would always flunk the glucose test and have to go back to take a four hour test . My Dr. told me that even if u brush your teeth , chew gum put anything in your mouth before your test it can throw the results off .
When I took the four hour test I was always fine .(and I have a strong history of diabetis in my family ) My advice to you is to take a deep breath and ask for them to either retake the first test or give you the four hour one . I would rather suffer four hours of YUCK than to have to take a shot everyday for the rest of my life .

I recently had my cholesterol checked, because high cholesterol runs in my family. I do not eat red meat or junk food that much but my cholesterol was still 225. I read up online about lowering it naturally. Anyways, it seems that veganism is one of the best ways for lowering your cholesterol. I know you were vegan before, so maybe check that out and give it a shot again? I am going back in a few months to have mine rechecked. I have been doing the vegan thing for about 5 weeks now. Here is just one of many sites on the subject: http://www.goveg.com/heartdisease_cholather.asp

+1!

You need to have the test repeated. Pre-diabetes (fasting glucose levels up to 126) can be managed with diet and exercise. Not for nothing, but you MUST fast before a FPG test. If you snuck a snack, it will throw off your results. Impaired glucose tolerance (pre-diabetes) is NOT type 2 DM; however, it can progress to diabetes if you don't manage it with diet and exercise. NOT THAT YOU NEED TO, but losing even a little bit of weight (~5 lbs) will help bring your FPG level down significantly. Don't freak--have the test repeated (or have a oral glucose tolerance test--a little different, but also diagnostic for IGT) and be as informed as possible.

I am so very sorry to hear about your friend. I hope only the best for them.

I agree with the others that you should retest for diabetes. Health issues are no fun and I should take this as a reminder to take my health more seriously since diabetes runs in one side of my family. You are a strong and health conscious woman and I know you can turn this around!

Finally, AWESOME job on the scavenger hunt! I get super competitive with those things too. Can't wait for the picks and have a great wedding filled weekend!

A fasting blood sugar of 121 is actually in the pre-diabetes range, not diabetes. And it should not be diagnosed without at least repeating the fasting level once. Hopefully it'll turn out that it was just a one-time thing.

I have heard that if you do not consume enough cholesterol, your body will produce it, because it needs it. And our bodies are awful at producing it and tend to go over board. And I would def ask for further testing on the diabetes.

1) You look hella cute in these pics! Man, if I looked like that after a shitter of a day, I'd throw a party just to show off. You look fantastic!

2) Call your insurance company and tell them you would like a second opinion and to have the tests run again. 90% of the time they will authorize full retesting because chronic disease is a major expense for them and they want to make sure you're diagnosed correctly. Then ask your doctor to re-run the tests and send them to a different lab. Something like diabetes isn't something you want to mess around with and it's not something you want on your medical records unless it's true.

3) I'm so sorry about your friend. He's lucky he has people like you to turn to. I'll be keeping both of you in my thoughts.

Good luck!

If it makes you feel better, birth control raised my cholesterol into the 300 level (I think -- it was about 180 a year prior, I started BC, but made no other lifestyle change, and the next year it was 300+). I have been afraid to go to the doctor to get retested - I am 21 and don't want to be on cholesterol medication!

I'm 21, 125lb, exercise well, don't eat red meats, rarely eat fried foods, etc... there is no reason my cholesterol should be this high. Sometimes, you just can't help it, and it's based on factors around you.

I hope your health turns out okay! It's good that you caught this early.

Breathe...it will be ok...your glucose wasn't too bad. Mine was 475 when they diagnosed me. You have lots of help and your friend Lexie is SO motivational and educated about all of this. I can provide the support in the humor department :)
