Hi Beet, I know you are going through a tough time so this might seem a bit harsh but have you considered that you might be a bit of a hypochondriac? It seems you are ill way more than average and visit the doctor more frequently than most.

PS - hello to Leo from two sweet and spoiled chihuahua mix rescues in Kirkland. We recommend "Urine Off" (not that we need it). :)

It's not just a placebo supplement, it does help you build a healthy immune system. Placebo would mean there's nothing in it that's of any benefit it just makes you think you're taking something helpful and then you mentally don't get sick. The thing is it's not a miracle thing like it claims to be, that's why they got their asses sued. It's overpriced and you can get the same benefits from taking a one a day and eating certain amino acid rich foods. It's not fda tested or approved. There are better immunoboosters out there. Even if you do take it though, it's completely unnecessary to take it 4-5 times a day... That could even harm you because overtaking vitamins is dangerous (like too much vitamin c can cause nausea, diarrhea, kidney stones and gastritis). Plus taking it 4-5 times a day is SO expensive! I worked at a pharmacy, that shit is way pricey.

I am not such a fan of Airbone either. I think straight up Vitamin C and Theraflu Hot Liquids work much better. You basically warm up water and dump the pack in so it's like yummy tea. I guess it is more for when you already have a cold/flu, but it has helped me much more than AIrbone ever did.

Pulling up carpets is a lot of heavy duty work and lifting. Bare concrete can be really nice but it is really hard on your body. I would put at least a laminate down like another poster suggested, but check with your building first so you won't get charged or anything!

Also, if you have problems with your cats peeing places, we have 2 cats that are very bad and have had pretty good success with this stuff: http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.aspx?familyid=107181&Ntt=dumb%20cat&OneResultRedirect=1

Not sure how it works with dogs. We've only done one application and our cats haven't even gone back to smell the spots since! We have also had no more accidents besides in sinks which we can clean and deal with much easier than furn or carpets. Good luck!

Don't you rent your place? I would not recommend doing any repairs on a place you are renting. You don't get to keep the benefit of your hard work and money invested. Plus, your complex will probably be SUPER pissed. You can't just rip up carpet... its not your property. Wow that sounded harsh... sorry. Just sayin'

Anyways, that's good about you and the ex. Sometimes its just a good feeling knowing that you can be friends after all you've been thru together. Gives you hope, ya know?

Hope you feel better and have a fun time with your dad. I have 3 friends who work at the American Diabetes Association so if you need any info or publications just holler

You really don't want to strip your carpet unless you've got A LOT of time and something to put back over top of it. My brother does this with my grandfather and he said that while the board under you're carpet is technically livable in reality if it ever gets majorly wet its ruined. If you really want to do it though I asked my brother how he does it.
1. Take a razor and cut the carpet all around the edges of your room.
2. Cut the carpet into strips to make it easier to handle.
3. Roll the strips up and remove it from the room.
4.Rip up the foam, he said you shouldn't have to cut it, it should rip up easily.
5. Get one of those broad flat shovels, kind of like the ones used for shoveling snow and hit/scoop the staples from the front.
Now just sweep up and you're done!

Oh and you could get some sort of laminate wood, or tile that you could install your self at Lowes or Home Depot that is also inexpensive but well made. That's what I did when I redid my bathroom earlier this year and I love my floors now! Good Luck!

Try putting a bowl or cup of vinegar in the bathroom. Vinegar stinks when you first smell it, but it is a great neutralizer. I would recommend letting it set over night with the door closed if you can. Then, the next day dump out the vinegar and open the bathroom window. You should be good to go

Well, I'm not a fan of the flu shot, so whatever. Airborne is basically vitamins, and amino acids - certainly won't harm you. I am a veterinarian and am totally western medicine ... I was skeptical when my associated recommended it. I tried it and ever since then (2003) my colds have never flared up to what they used to, so placebo effect, vitamins, or just the fact that I'm drinking 8 oz of it 5 times a day, it appears to work for me so I will continue to use it and recommend it. I even get the generic version from walgreens. I know that in my experience, this stuff works for me. Some people drip hot honey into their nasal sinuses with a netty pot - this is a whole lot less invasive and relatively inexpensive. I like it and will continue to use it :)

I swear by olive leaf. I used to get sick every time I flew, but now I take olive leaf (a couple capsules of standardized whole herb) before getting on a plane and hardly ever get sick anymore. It works best if you take it preventively, but I've also warded off colds by taking it as soon as I start getting a sore throat or some other symptom. Good luck, and have fun with your dad!

Black lights only work on cat pee. So - it is the dog or the prior tenant. Frebreeze works really well if you can find where the dog is doing this, really saturate the area and let it evaporate naturally. I would clean the toilet like the first suggestion too - but wear gloves!!

Sorry, but Airborne's a fake. My mom used to be hardcore on it too, but it's just kind of a placebo supplement.

"First, he says, Airbone entered the market claiming that its formula — a result of research by second-grade teacher Victoria Knight-McDowell — could ward off colds. Airborne later backed off, reworking its campaign to say the supplement "boosts your immune system."

The problem, Schardt says, is that Airborne didn't have a single shred of evidence to back up either claim."
