So universities will invest money on wall street like everyone else, and some of the money they invest is from tuition. Basically, some of these companies that universities invest in do horrible things to the environment, or support certain politicians or political actions. (The protesters will call it warmongering) but anyway, the point they make is that students should have some say in where the money is invested, or at least be aware of it.
That way, if NYU invests in a company that skins live rabbits to test pain medication, people could know about it and demand change, or refuse to pay tuition, or change school I guess.

there are financial brokers out there who specifically invest clients funds in socially responsible companies, and the protesters were initially advocating the use of these brokers and open lists of invested assets.

The occupation was annoying.

I agree about the financial transparency part. Also, I think its messed to assume ALL of the kids at a private school are rich.Some work their way through, and a great many have scholarships.

I do think that whoever PAYS the tuition should be leading the protests for financial transparency.Like, if their parents had all sent a letter to the president, or something like that, it would have been much more effective

I know some people at NYU, and these dipshits didn’t exactly have broad camus support either. There were counter-protesters with signs like “LET US EAT.” Brilliant.

This was utterly ridiculous. I like that they kept saying the police were using force and were making everyone upset. No, I’m pretty sure the police were the ones being calm and this idiot with the camera was the one going nutso. Also, it was funny when he said “this is all on camera, you are being taped”, like the NYU staff and the police could give a shit.

I’m a student at NYu and I totally supported their protest. Although i do admit that they may have took it too far and their demands were all over the place. The main demand that should’ve been met was financial transparency and at least NYU knows how the students feel. I pay for my tuition w/o my parents help and I want to get the NYu quality education but at an affordable price. These kids are just as frustrated as me and sometimes frustration makes you do crazy things.
