i wish i could say i feel sorry for you, but i don't. i work in the hotel industry, not so much because i want to but because it pays the bills. guess what? the hospitality industry doesn't believe in holidays, we work all of them. i don't get to see anyone i love or care about, other than my co-workers who i see every day. so please, get over yourself and count your damn blessings.

Quit you whinin'! You're spending the holidays in freakin Phoenix! I'm in freakin West Virginia, in a small town you've never heard of.

You went to an NFL game. I couldn't even watch the last Saints game of the season on TV because the local affiliate didn't show it, and because the only so-called sports bar in town doesn't open till 4 p.m. on Sundays. And they probably don't have access to all the games anyway. And the non-smoking section smells like sewer.

You went out for drinks with friends. I went to dinner my mother, grandfather, and grandfather's girlfriend in a restaurant in a dry county. For those of you who've lived your entire life in civilization and are wondering what the hell a dry county is, it means no booze!

That's right – with the exception of lunch with friends in a non-dry county where I sat engulfed in a cloud of sewer-stench and tried to down an weeks worth of Corona, I've endured all of this with no alcohol. And I sure as hell don't get no heroin!

Will I come back next year? Yes, because Tiffany and Sharon are right. Will I like it? NO! But it’s the price we must pay.

Tiffany's got a really good point. I was still a teen when I lost both parents, 3 yrs apart, both in December. I would kill to be able to visit them at home on the Holidays. It's once a year. Keep reminding yourself that, and you'll be back in Seattle before you know it.
She's got another valid point in the exercising. Are you still running while on vacation? Because you must know how much that will change your mood.

Beet, you're going to hurt your family's feelings!!!! Listen, everyone hates this shit ... well, maybe not EVERYONE, but I sure as hell do. I was all "bah humbug" and "holidays suck" ... them my Mom dropped dead on Dec. 22nd 2005. That shut me the fuck up. Family visits are necessary evils - it's the price you must pay. Get through it then get home and put it behind you. You better be running when you are there - your half marathon is right around the corner. You'll get through this - there are worse things, believe it or not.
