Mumbai

Thoughts and prayers out to everyone who’s there, or everyone who has a loved one there.

Not much more to say, I guess. Hate is an insidious creature, a subtle and a dangerous foe. It’s mostly invisible, is the thing. And what’s tricky is that to defeat it you have to be able to see it. And you have to be able to see it everywhere it hides, and you can catch its scent best by spotting it inside yourself first. And that’s hard, is the thing — and it’s terrifying and it changes everything — and maybe we’re just not quite there yet. So I try to fight this shit the best way I know how — by sitting down at the end of every day and looking for hate within myself. As rigorously as I can. And acknowledging it when it is there, and saying “I see you there, dude. I see where you’re hiding. And I’m watching you, I’m watching everything you do, so you better sit up straight and behave, asshole.” It’s a humbling exercise, separating myself from the hate, from the ego, from the pride. It’s an exercise at which I am imperfect, but improving. I am stabilizing relations in the Sasha subcontinent. I can only hope the idea spreads.

What I have noticed?

For the first time in my life, I’m checking Twitter before CNN for news on this.

Twitter Mumbai feed is here. You’ll quickly see what I mean. News is coming in faster and more specifically and from a broader set of sources than anything you see on U.S. TV or read on CNN.com. It’s kind of the first major world crisis since Twitter caught on, and the technology is proving its mettle with flying colors. The implications are enormous.

It’s a revolution, y’all.
