@ Steve Johnson

I don't know if your reply was for my or Siggy's sake, but whatever

I too have been reading beet for a long enough time to know about the family background stuff, and am quite familiar with sasha's/beet's style of humour, and am a crazy fan of her writing, cos she's ridiculously talented and amazing fun to read and she has the most freakishly mindblowing insights, but this holocaust thing just stood out like crazy and i didn't like it one bit

and that's that
just because it was (very clearly, i might add) supposed to be ironic, it doesn't necessarily mean it worked, well, definitely not for me

(and don't tell me, cos i know: "overreacting" IS my middle name... *sigh*)

@Purplemonkeypaws: It was a joke... back in 2005 Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad famously called the Nazi Holocaust a "myth."

I hate to chime in again but if you can't see the irony and sarcasm in Sasha's writing then this place is not for you. Last time I checked, she has also mentioned this several times, that she is JEWISH. Attacking her for making a light of the Holocaust is really small-minded. When I first read it, I was like that was odd but then when I thought about it I knew it was sarcastic. She is a damn fine writer and is over my heads sometimes. At least I read and think about the blogs before I post a comment. Sasha kicks ass. Not as much as Chuck Norris but still.

On a side note, in high school the Holocaust and concentration camps are what my term paper focused on. I wrote 10 pages on just the conditions in one camp and did not come close to touching all of it.

While I agree that soiasf maybe overreacted initially, I also think that the Holocaust is still a touchy subject, esp to those of us who lost family members in concentration camps. My famly still can't joke abt it, so it's hard to read lighthearted commentary referencing those horrors.

Wow, I really did put my foot in it, didn't I? I just re-read the last paragraph of your post, and yeah, I get the sarcasm now... Apologies, Sasha. And next time I want to comment on a blog, I'll wait a day. Still, touchy subject and all, and there are enough uglies out there (not all of them Iranian, I'm afraid, and not as stoopid as we'd like to think).

@ downunda...-shakes head- Iranian eh?

@Sasha,
The pumpkins remind me of the mystery gourd growing out of my parents compost pile.
My dad said it was squash, my mom said Pumpkin, she was right.
It grew right out of the compost pile, and the actual pumpkin was almost as tall as my waist!

@soiasf:

Downunda is correct (and, for that matter, so is Wellhonestlynow). The humor was a little deeper than you could go, and that's fine, but maybe hold off on commenting next time when you're so far out of your league.

Of course I believe the Holocaust is real and provable. But, really, at this point, what good is the Holocaust if we can't all have a little fun with it?
