Ugh, sounds like my life at 22... I hope someday a vacuum is all it takes to fill the void.

damn - i wish *i* had the same feeling about a dyson as you do -
except that mine was a complete fucking failure from just about day one.

after diminishing returns during year one, when i finally got tired of spending 30 minutes to try and pick up particles from a 6 x 9 ft rug and actually called dyson to complain... the stated promise (even putting a sticker on the damned machine itself!) of help no matter what turned out to be bullshit.

as is the ad's proclamations that nothing ever clogs in a dyson.
isn't weird that a product that makes that claim has pages on how to unclog the machine in it's user's guide???

it all netted out that my dyson had no clogs and that the company was only willing to see what was wrong if i dragged the thing out to brooklyn, (i'm in manhattan) new jersey(!) or mailed it off to upstate ny.
at my own expense.

i hate dyson.

but it's nice that yours works.

Yeah, Dyson is amazing. We thought that our old vacuum was doing a pretty good job, but then we saw the adds for the shiney new Dysons that everyone was raving about, and immediately went out and bought 1. It FILLED the canister just cleaning the living room! They really are the best vacuums on the market. But unfortunately they do lose suction, just not as easily as other vacuums. Just be sure to keep the filter washed, and you shouldn't have any problems with that.

That was a great post--wonderful writing. Thanks for letting me live vicariously as a Dyson owner. I've always wanted one and unaccountably, I still do, even though we have hardwood floors. I don't see a Dyson in my future, though-- my husband makes fun of the way the guy in the ad says "suction" and if we got one I'd hear no end of it.

A glorious epistle!

I can see what you mean, too. I'm a 25 year old girl and at some point in the past year, it has become obvious to me that cleaning my apartment brings me a unique type of satisfaction. Not that I actively enjoy it, but it's satisfying. It was a slightly disturbing epiphany for me, like holy wow I'm a grownup now.
